For some of you that I never angrily told, I received a jaywalking ticket in Austin.

Tuesday night.. 10:30pm.. 4th and Lavaca. Austin is a ghosttown on Tuesday nights downtown... crossed the road.. never looked... bicycle cop comes out and gives me a ticket.

Anyways.. Got a lawyer (next door neighbor).. The judge wanted $250 and 15 hrs of community service. Lawyer said "That would be GREAT if he wasn't legally represented. You want to do a jury trial?".. Anyways.. knocked down to $100 and 0 com service AND it gets knocked off my record (class C mist). I'm on "probation?" and can't jaywalk again until May 12th or bad stuff happens... *shrugs*

Anyways... I bring this up because I saw an article on KVUE this morning. The current "going rate" for jaywalking in Austin is $500.

Things that happened this week that APD could have done instead of give out jaywalking tickets:
In the 78723:
* 3 attempted robberies
* 1 car keyed
* solicitors harassing the neighbors about security solutions (really aggressively)

Who CARES about jaywalking?! If you're DUMB enough to enter a road where cars are EXCESSIVELY going on the road and get hit, then Darwin did it's job. (hopefully you didn't reproduce first).

I hate LAWS for dumb people. "It's a fine to commit suicide. It's a fine to jump off a bridge. It's a fine to .... ". If you're stupid, you will die. (or be severely brain damaged). It's your own damn fault. If you accept the risk.. that's it... you're done. I'm tired of this shit.
